Angel's Egg - 4K Re-Release
I went and saw the 4K Restoration of Angel's Egg in theater's last night and have to say, they did quite a good job remastering the OVA for the 40th anniversary.
Originally I watched this during Lockdown while searching for weird/obscure movies to watch, and this was listed on a tangentially related list about visually stunning anime, and with its short run time (around 71 min) it was something I decided to watch that night.
Boy, was I confused after watching it.
For those who have not had the chance to watch this, its a short OVA that the director of Ghost in the Shell (GitS) did years before hand, and it is sparse on dialogue. While it DOES contain a story, it is just barely there, and for the most part I was only there to be absolutely blown away by the incredible visuals and gorgeous backdrops.
Going into rewatching this for the first time in five years, I decided to pay more attention to the story and...It was about as paper-thin as it was the first time I watched it, and just like the first watch, the visuals, backdrops, characters and animation were the standouts and highlight of the movie. I am a huge fan of traditional animation and being able to see this was an amazing experience.
I'm sort of rambling at this point, is this how you do a blog? Anyway...
Below is the trailer for Angel's Egg, which I highly recommend a watch!
